Lion King is just a year away in becoming the Disney’s Broadway’s musical longest running show not only in Las Vegas but also in any American city. Lion king earned this feat after an extension of 14 months has been decided made to Las Vegas production that will now close on December 30, 2011 and by that time musical will run by 31 months with over 1000 performances. Thomas Schumacher, talented producer and president of the Disney Theatrical productions hopes new extension that is the result of Vegas public response towards The Lion King musical will boost the Las Vegas economy both in terms of money and visitors. .
The Lion King Musical is currently running in the 7 cities of the country and international as well and has earned a global gross of around $4 billion from it ticket sales. This huge revenue comes from the US cities including New York, Las Vegas, Norfolk, and Durham among others and from International production including London, Toronto, Singapore, Hamburg and Tokyo. The Lion King is one of those magnificent musical adoptions in the Broadway history that may run sold-out as nearly as for four years followed by “Wicked” and “Spiderman”. Julie Taymor, director of the Lion King Musical on Broadway gained national wide appreciation and acknowledgement for how she tackled the Lion King production on Broadway.
The Lion King Broadway Production team who in November faced the tragic death of 11 year old Shannon Tavarez who used to play the role of Young Nala organized a charity event in the honor of the young Nala. The fourth annual bake sale event at Fireman's Park on December 8 hosted by Broadway Kids Care earned more than $600 that went to the Shannon Tavarez Foundation.
The Lion King is all set to open its new production in Singapore at the new state-of-the-art theatre at Marina Bay Sands hotel on March 3, 2011 and according to latest updates production took in two child scholars from the Music Museum Group (MMG’s) Musmusikwela program to be stared in the Lion King Singapore Production. 11 year old Tintin De Leon will portray the role of young Nala and 12 year old EO Matawaran will play the role of Samba.
